Staff
will consist of two occupational therapists and students in
occupational, speech therapy or other related fields. The staff to
camper ratio will be 1:3.
GROSS & SENSORY MOTOR SKILLS
Our day
will consist of a lot of gross and sensory motor activities. We
will have a general theme each day but we will also remain flexible
to help the children plan and execute their own ideas. We will do
water play, mud play, swinging, climbing and learning to play
traditional games such as Red Light Green Light, Red Rover Red Rover
and even Duck Duck Goose! If you have a favorite childhood game,
please share it with us!
FINE MOTOR SKILLS
Each day
we will spend time on crafts, pre writing/fine motor activities and
writing development, depending on the developmental level of the
children in the group. With
children
who are ready to write we will use the “Handwriting
Without Tears Program”.
SENSORY INTEGRATION AND DIR/FLOORTIME
Free
play will be an important component of our day, typically during
outdoor sensory motor play and during indoor “stations time”.
During these free periods we will incorporate the
DIR/Floortime and
Sensory Integration Philosophies to help the children at each
developmental level.
PEER INTERACTION & PROBLEM SOLVING
Because
we will have a low student/adult ratio we will be able to have
several groups of children working at different levels and seeing
each other and helping each other. The environment will be rich in
sensory experiences and helping children learn self regulation
skills and how to play with others. Throughout the day we will be
working on peer interactions, problem solving, self regulation and
co-regulation as well as higher order skills otherwise known as
executive skills.
We will
also use Reuven Feurstein’s Instrumental
Enrichment Program, the Mediated Learning Experience (MLE).
We will be using the Basic Instruments for preschoolers and early
elementary school students.
Please
have your child wear a bathing suit under their clothes and bring an
extra change of clothing and a towel. (Remember to put your child’s
name on their clothing.) We will provide extra sunscreen but if you
or your child has a preference please send it in their backpack with
their name on it.
A snack
will be provided each day and some days we will incorporate a
cooking activity using in the kitchen of the community house.
